Intro

Overeager Thomas Crimmin (Patrick McGoohan) joins the ranks of wardens at a decaying Dublin prison, where the only break from the monotony is the execution of death row inmates, or “quare fellows,” by hanging. Crimmin is a staunch believer in capital punishment, but the reasoning of senior guard Regan (Walter Macken) causes him to doubt his convictions. When Crimmin falls into an adulterous affair with Kathleen (Sylvia Syms), wife of a death-row inmate, matters become far more complicated.
